HFES Presentation: Improving IFUs with Eye Tracking, Human Factors, and Design

Are you attending the 2016 International Symposium on Human Factors and Ergonomics in Health Care: Shaping the Future? If so, be sure to check out our presentation on how to improve your Instructions for Use (IFUs). Peter Sneeringer, Director of Human Factors, and Lindsay Carrabine, Design Director, will provide their first-hand perspectives on how to optimize the IFU creation process.

At Design Science, we know how difficult designing IFUs can be. But, with years of experience in this space, we've refined our methods and are constantly looking at new ways to optimize the design and testing process.

Peter and Lindsay will explore some of these "tricks of the trade" in their presentation, while also showing real-life examples from usability testing. With a foundation in the principles of human factors and graphic design, Design Science is also integrating unique and powerful new tools, like eye tracking software, that can be used to add quantitative data to the design process.

By constructing shadow-map visuals, like the one above, from this data, we can recreate the user's subjective experience of an IFU. Such data can provide unparalleled levels of insight into how people actually use a given set of instructions--revealing not only what they see, but also what they skip and where they stumble.

There’s still time to register! Visit the HFES website for registration information: http://www.hfes.org/web/HFESMeetings/2016HealthCareSymposium.html

Unable to attend the conference? Keep checking back here; you just might find some IFU insights summarized on our blog after the symposium.
